Note about Author's Absence and a Request for Your Support through Your Session Attendance

Due to the LA fires and the APA's A/V policies, which would penalize affiliated groups $500 for having a virtual participant that would only use a session participant's laptop and not the hotel's A/V equipment, even for emergency situations such as these, Johnathan Flowers will not be able to attend the session. However, session participants--especially Taylor Enoch (University College London, UK) and Benito Elías García-Valero (Universidad de Alicant, San Vicente del Raspeig, Spain)--plan to video record the session, for archiving purposes, and to give Johnathan an opportunity to review the session later on, including the session Q&A. Johnathan will respond to session Q&A questions, and his replies will be posted on the SPE website as an aspect of the archived session.

The session participants are doing their best to keep this session going during this difficult time for Johnathan, and we would appreciate your support through your attendance and participation in the Q&A session. So, please, show your support for fellow community members, and their remarkable professionalism by attending this session.

We would also appreciate you making a comment about the APA's problematic A/V policy toward affiliated group sessions during an emergency situation such as the LA fires in your response to the post-conference attendee survey. We believe that this aspect of the APA's policy is unnecessary and structurally problematic. It not only exacerbates the consequences of tragic circumstances like the LA fires on affected community members, but also puts those affiliated groups who follow the APA policies in a worse situation than those who do not. Such consequences are clear indicators of a poorly thought out policy.
